Betty Amos is an accomplished singer, a hit songwriter, and just the second woman recorded playing three-finger, Scruggs-style banjo. She was a star of the Louisiana Hayride in the mid-50s and sang on many of the early hit records by the Carlisles. In the early 1960s she formed a trio with her best friend Judy and her sister Jean and they were signed as members of the Wheeling Jamboree. Between 1964 and 1967 Starday released eight of their 45s and also published many original tunes written by Betty, including Second Fiddle (To an Old Guitar). Moves to New York and Pennsylvania brought the group to a halt in the early 1970s, though they regrouped in Nashville in the early 2000s and continue to perform as a trio. |
